The Stanford Network

Most all the buildings on campus are connected together via a high speed network. If you are on campus, you should be able to have a fast ethernet connection to computers on campus. From a Stanford computer, you can telnet to other computers on campus or elsewhere on the Internet.

The Stanford net also supports a variety of network protocols.

  • TCP/IP - Internet connectivity
  • AppleTalk - Macintosh to Macintosh communication/file sharing/print sharing
  • NFS - UNIX to UNIX file sharing

If you are off campus, you will need to connect into the leland computer first. Once connected to the main campus computer, you can then connect into other computers elsewhere.
